Carsten joined Cain Brothers in 1993 to open the firm’s Chicago Office and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. Since joining Cain Brothers, Carsten has been primarily involved with mergers, acquisitions, sales and other strategic advisory engagements on behalf of hospitals and health systems, managed care organizations, ambulatory surgery centers, ancillary providers and physician organizations. His engagements have encompassed a broad array of transactions including sponsorship transfers, joint ventures, joint operating agreements, virtual enterprises, and restructurings, as well as the placement of debt and equity. Carsten regularly provides expert testimony in support of valuations, fairness opinions, and other transaction structures and is a frequent speaker and author of published articles on health care strategy and finance.
Prior to joining Cain Brothers, Carsten was with Unibank A/S, a predecessor bank to Nordea Bank, in New York, where he was responsible for the health care lending group. Prior to Unibank, Carsten was in the audit group of Arthur Andersen & Co., where his health care work included hospital audits, feasibility studies, and merger and acquisition advisory services.
Carsten received his MBA in finance from the Stern School of Business, New York University and is an Honors College graduate of Michigan State University.
