Mr. Powell is a consulting actuary who has specialized in consulting with retirement communities for more than 30 years. A.V. Powell & Associates LLC home office is located in Atlanta, GA and has remote locations in Boston, MA, Kansas City, MO, and St. Louis, MO. We provide services that include: (i) actuarial studies for regulatory compliance, credit-enhanced financing, and for setting fees and reserves; (ii) estimates of the obligation to provide future services for use in GAAP audits; (iii) software to amortize entry fees (FORCAST Amortization Software Transactions, aka FAST); and (iv) software to evaluate a resident’s ability to pay future fees (FINAID software). The firm continually improves its retirement community demographic and financial projection model (FORCAST) which can generate extremely reliable financial projections when combined with the largest proprietary database on health care utilization for CCRC residents.
Mr. Powell has published several articles and one book on the actuarial issues that are involved in pricing continuing care contracts. Prior to establishing A.V. Powell & Associates LLC, Mr. Powell managed actuarial consulting practices for Tillinghast/Towers Perrin and Winklevoss & Associates. Mr. Powell has an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a graduate degree from Georgia State University and has completed his doctoral course work in Risk and Insurance at the Wharton School. He is a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA).
