Carol O. Long, PhD, RN, FPCN is the Principal at C. O. Long Consulting LLC / Capstone Healthcare Solutions. She has been a registered nurse for 37 years holding various staff, management, education, and consultant positions on aging and palliative care services in all healthcare settings. She is an accomplished author with numerous articles, monographs, book chapters, and two books related to advanced dementia care, end-of-life care, pain management, and community-based care. Dr. Long is an ELNEC (End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium) trainer and has presented end-of-life and palliative care training nationally and internationally in the Middle East, South America and Asia with current consulting projects in the US and Singapore. Dr. Long is Co-Director of the Palliative Care for Advanced Dementia program at Beatitudes Campus in Phoenix, Arizona and Adjunct Faculty, Arizona State University College of Nursing and Healthcare Innovation. She is a Fellow of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association and a Transcultural Nursing Scholar with the international Transcultural Nursing Society. She has received numerous awards including the Distinguished ELNEC-Core Trainer Award and with the Beatitudes team was honored with the Excellence in Research and Education Award from the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (now LeadingAge) in 2010. Dr. Long has a BSN from Marquette University, MS from the University of Michigan, and PhD from Arizona State University.
