Jim is a Managing Director and head of Cain Brothers’ Real Estate Group. He also serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. He has been with the firm since 1995 and has 20 years experience in health care real estate and finance. He specializes in advising clients in the recapitalization or monetization of medical real estate properties, the selection of third-party development partners for new non-acute projects, and the creation of joint ventures between developers and sources of capital. Representative transactions include Catholic Healthcare West’s divestiture of 24 medical office buildings, Baylor Health Care System’s divestiture of 21 medical office buildings and Lillibridge Health Trust’s recapitalization of a 1.7 million square foot portfolio of medical office buildings. Jim also advised NexCore Group and The Cirrus Group on the recapitalization of their portfolios of medical properties and the structuring of joint ventures with capital partners. In addition to real estate financing and advisory engagements, Jim has advised hospital and managed care clients on a wide variety of merger and acquisition and joint venture transactions.
Prior to joining Cain Brothers, Jim was with Citicorp Securities’ Health Care Group where he specialized in capital raising and corporate finance advisory services with for-profit and tax-exempt health care clients nationwide.
Jim grew up in Boise, Idaho. He graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in Finance and Economics and holds an MBA from the University of Rochester.
